I loved this essay. Thanks so much for such a detailed and sensitive response to Steinbeck's work. I've ordered the book and was so inspired by the quote "I wonder how many people I've looked at all my life and never seen" that it will be the theme of our next calendar at the Latika Roy Foundation (I will send you a copy as a thank you!).
Mitti Cafe looks amazing! What a brilliant idea. We have a club for disabled adults in Dehradun and the trainees at our vocational centre staff the cafe that is at the heart of the club . . . but Mitti seems to take it to another level. I love the website.
Funny - I only heard of SVP a few days ago when a friend in Pune offered to introduce me to a woman named Parul (I'm going to Pune on Wednesday) who is active in the chapter there. Small world.
I could tell tales for years of all I've learned from the kids we work with . . . someday, we should meet!

Dear Jo,
It was such a delight to receive this lovely note from you! Thank you.
I do hope you find the book as fulfilling as I did.
As an aside -
I am deeply involved in SVP Kolkata - and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I admire the work you do with Latika Roy Foundation.
We work with Mittie Cafe in Calcutta. And it would be lovely to connect to swap tales of the grace which this work accords us. I really hope we do.
Thank you again!
Sunil

Parul is a dear friend. And you must meet her. She is all light and enthusiasm....
Thank you again for writing in, Jo. I’m sure we will be in touch soon enough....Thank you so much and take care!
