Uncut for 5 years!

250 episodes and counting. Each episode out every Saturday at 8pm. So that’s 250 weeks, so that’s (almost) 5 years.

Well, that is Uncut Poetry for you.

It’s been an incredible journey. Having started it close to the pandemic years, and having grown it into a discipline which I myself impinged on myself, its now the longest running podcast of original poetry in the country.

Also, Uncut Poetry is in the Top 10% in the World of Podcasting. It also features in the top 100 Best Poetry Podcasts of the world!

With a rating of 5 on Apple Podcasts and 4.9 on Spotify, it has obviously found its niche, in some ways, in some hearts. A listener writes this on Apple Podcast: “Sunil Bhandari's words heal wounds and make you understand stars. His poetry is deeply moving and introspective".

And it is most heard in USA, Philippines (how? why?) and Canada - amongst the 70 countries it is listened in. ( Other countries include Papua New Guinea, Latvia, Armenia, Brazil!)

Uncut Poetry was a podcast started on a whimsy. I was exasperated that my poetry was confined to books which had limited sales, social media where I could just not spend time enough to create traction, and poetry soirees where a big crowd meant 20 people. And though all my writing is first and foremost for myself (I will die if I don't get to write), I had enough people reaching out to me, to know that my words made some difference somewhere.

And podcasts was something new, exciting, controllable. I didn't have to rely on anyone or anything to get it started. Udemy, Sarah Mikutel and YouTube tutorials later, I took the leap!

Uncut Poetry Podcast was launched on 23rd February 2020.

Firstly, it's my poetry. Secondly, it's me reciting them. Thirdly, it's a complete DIY. But here we are. Millions in over 70 countries are hearing my poetry. It's both humbling and uplifting.

The marvel of this universe is its unexpected gifts. And as I keep telling anybody within listening distance - the journey always has rewards embedded within. Step out of your skin.
